Camper

Alberta Special (Shepard mix rescue) Β· 2.5 Β· Burnaby

Biggest adventure

Camper's biggest adventure was when we took him on a multi-day trip to Vancouver Island where he completed two summits, 30+ km of hiking, and learned how to swim in the ocean all over the course of 4 days.

Closest call

While he's encountered many bears on our adventures throughout the north shore mountains, Camper's closest call was getting too lost in the sauce with alpine blueberries and using almost every poop bag we brought for a three-day backcountry trip... in 6 hours.

Why Camper deserves the crown

While you may think he got his name from our love of the outdoors, Camper’s story began when a black puppy with satellite-dish ears was found alone at a campsite in southern Alberta. He had survived as a wild animal and stealing snacks from campers before being trapped and brought to the shelter, where he was nearly euthanized for being unsaveable before being transferred to a foster-based rescue. His journey to trust was long, with several failed adoptions, until us. We were warned he was a demanding dog and a flight risk off-leash, but now he follows us through every forest and up every mountain. All he needed was a comfy bed and a million smooches on the head to become the happiest Camper there ever was - oh, and lot of hot dogs.
